I’ve been in a bit of funk the last few days, ever since learning of the massacre of yeshivah students in Jerusalem. Since the attack took place at the Merkaz Harav Yeshivah, on Shabbat I taught about the conflicting emotions we feel in these moments through the lens of Rav Kook’s own writings (text sheet is here). This helped a bit.
This week, I received a note from my colleague, Rabbi Zoe Klein. Zoe had appealed to her colleagues months ago, before Rosh Hashanah, to raise money within their congregations to donate a Mobile Intensive Care Unit to Magen David Adom, Israel’s “Red Cross.” TMS members will recall our participation in that drive. The MICU has joined the MDA fleet, and is based in Petach Tikvah. Here is a picture of the ambulance.
In the face of too much violence and death, I’m glad to know that we did something to bring a bit of life to a troubled Eretz Yisrael.
